A lot of great and rare wines of sorts have come our way.
Roagna managed tannins beautifully. The wines have gorgeous levity and a vivid expression of classic Nebbiolo characteristics: savory notes, herbs, and floral notes.
Langhe Rosso is a humble designation (like Bourgogne Rouge), but Roagna's has no trouble going head-to-head with Barolos and Barbarescos.
The list below contains over fifty different wines from our favorite Piedmont producers. You'll find ten offerings from Roagna and six from Bartolo Mascarello, everything from Freisa to magnums of Barolo.
When they were released, we felt that the 2013 Roagnas represented the high-water mark for this well-established estate.
Small production, great vintage and a strong following.
The wines of Serafino Rivella possess such honesty and precision that it's hard not to be wowed by them. There's something mysterious and special about the wine. They have plenty of finesse and feel devoid of artifice.
Rabajà is one of Barbaresco's crown jewels.
It is a dazzling wine. The site produces wines of impressive power, but that's only part of the story. Rabajà is above all about completeness and elegance.
For years now, Roagna has been the benchmark producer in Barbaresco and one of the most exciting estates in all of Piedmont. This trio of Roagna's Vecchie Viti magnums are old vine selections and represent some of the greatest that Piedmont has to offer. I'm very happy to offer these magnums, the only ones available in the country.
Roagna's 2014 Barbaresco Paje VV may very well represent the pinnacle of their stunning 2014 collection. It's impossible not to dwell on Galloni's quote above. It gets to the core of things. The Pajè VV is haunting. I'm very happy to have a second opportunity to offer this wine.
"Gravitas that is impossible to miss" -Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media A tasting of over twenty wines held in early March proved Galloni's note above powerfully correct. Paitin's 2016 Barbaresco Sori Paitin was a standout. At as low as $49.95, the 2016 Sori Paitin offers some of the greatest value that we've seen from Barbaresco in a long time.
Poderi Colla came as a revelation to us. We first tasted them in the 2013 vintage, and the wines were brilliant.
For us, 2008 marks the vintage where Roagna broke through to an entirely new level. We've worked with Roagna since we opened fifteen years ago.
Roagna's 2014 Barbaresco Paje VV may very well represent the pinnacle of their stunning 2014 collection. It's impossible not to dwell on Galloni's quote above. It gets to the core of things. The Pajè VV is haunting. Last week, we offered the basic Pajè bottling, and today I'm happy to offer its old-vine sibling.
For years now, Roagna has been the benchmark producer in Barbaresco and one of the most exciting estates in all of Piedmont. Their 2014 Barbarescos are simply stunning.
The 2016 vintage in Barbaresco is important. The wines have everything - clarity, concentration, and finesse. Antonio Galloni's impression of the vintage seems spot on: "The 2016s, wines from a potentially historic vintage, may very well put Barbaresco on the map big time." Cascina delle Rose very likely produced the best wines that we've ever tasted from them. The Tre Stelle is stunning.
For years, the wines of Serafino Rivella were only known to a small group of insiders. In the past few years, that's started to change quickly. The wine possess such an honesty and precision that it's hard not to be wowed by them. They have plenty of finesse and feel almost devoid of artifice.
The 2013 Barbaresco Pajè will leave readers weak at the knees with its stunning aromatics. " -Antonio Galloni Roagna's 2013 Barbaresco Pajè simply explodes with aromatic nuance.
When you combine the Rabajà vineyard with the 2013 vintage in Piedmont, the results are dazzling. The 2013 vintage in Piedmont is all about finesse and clarity. Simply put, Rabajà is a blessed piece of earth for the Nebbiolo grape.
Serafino Rivella is a tiny estate that until recently was only known to a small group of insiders. That changes with the 2013 vintage.
The excitement over 2013 Piedmont is mounting in a very big way.
"Simply put, these are the very best young Riservas I have ever tasted from the Produttori." -Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media
Rabajà is one of the great vineyards for Nebbiolo. Catching a Rabajà when it's on is one of the great drinking experiences of the Piedmont.
