Back Up The Truck - 2016 Piedmont Edition:
2016 Paitin Barbaresco Sori Paitin

"Gravitas that is impossible to miss" -Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media

A tasting of over twenty wines held in early March proved Galloni's note above powerfully correct. Paitin's 2016 Barbaresco Sori Paitin was a standout.

At as low as $49.95, the 2016 Sori Paitin offers some of the greatest value that we've seen from Barbaresco in a long time.

The Paitin family has been in Barbaresco since 1796 and, for decades upon decades, has been turning out classically structured expressions of Nebbiolo. The wines have been go-to's for value seekers. The 2016 Sori Paitin reached such an extraordinary level that there was no doubt that it merited a "back up the truck" offer.

The story here is simple: conscientious winemaking, choice terroir, and a great vintage.

For Piedmont, 2016 is clearly an important vintage. The 2016s are a dream brew boasting depth, verve, and clarity. You get power, clear terroir imprints, and a cool, bright profile. In short, it possesses ripe vintage concentration with cool vintage finesse and precision.

Antonio Galloni, a seasoned Piedmont fanatic, has written: "The young 2016 Barbarescos are some of the most compelling young wines I have tasted in twenty years of visiting the region."

Serraboella is one of the great crus of Barabaresco's Nieve area. Sori Paitin is a special, particularly well exposed section. In 2016, the Sori Paitin is a blockbuster showing serious drive and power with loads of complexity. There are nicely defined notes of red fruits, herbs, earth, spice, and floral notes.

When you factor in the price and how it will age, this is a mindblowing wine. This is a moment where the stars aligned with producer, site, and vintage. I highly doubt this is a combination that will be replicated anytime soon.

2016 Paitin Barbaresco Sori Paitin

Special Bottle Price: $54.95

Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media: "The 2016 Barbaresco Sorì Paitin is powerful, but also quite reticent today. Dark cherry, menthol, licorice, sage and dried flowers are all found in a searing, intense Sorì Paitin that needs to be at its best. Tannic and austere, the 2016 appears to be going through a closed phase, and yet it has a feeling of verticality and gravitas that is impossible to miss."

Special 4-Pack Price: $199.80 ($49.95/btl)
