Northern Rhone Superstar Jean-Louis Chave

Posted by CrushWine

Chave is one of the most revered names in all of the wine world, as well as a personal favorite of Crush owner Bobby Schagrin.

Today we're offering wines purchased directly from Bobby's collection as well as two surprising recent vintages direct from the estate.

More on Jean-Louis Chave:

Although the Chave estate in the Northern Rhone region of France dates back to the 15th century, 37-year old Jean-Louis is now making the most thrilling wines in the estate's history. The Syrah-based red Hermitage from Jean-Louis is one of the most sought after wines in the world. In the past ten years, the brilliant winemaker has also started to produce wine in the St. Joseph part of the Northern Rhone; there, Chave hopes to make wines that define this under-appreciated appellation.

Jean-Louis graduated from the world famous oenology school, UC-Davis. To his winemaking he brings the wisdom of an established estate along with a zeal for experimentation. The detail of the flavors in Chave's wines is astonishing.

Even in less than stellar vintages, he achieves extraordinary concentration by cutting production significantly. While Chave's wines' capability for aging is legendary, the past few vintages gave us wines to drink right now or with short-term cellaring.

The following are some of Chave's recent successes and, not surprisingly, the hardest to find.

A Word
on Provenance

Weve purchased each of the wines in this offering either from Crush partner Bobby Schagrins personal collection or from a distributor who has sourced them directly from Chave.

Regardless, every single bottle was obtained very soon after its release from the estate and has only been moved once (to get them from storage to the store).

To say they are in "mint condition" is no exaggeration.
