Clarity, Energy and Wild Drinkability:
2016 Lapierre Morgon

Posted by Joe Salamone

Every vintage, we watch people stock up on Lapierre by the case.

Lapierre is one of the standard-bearers of Beaujolais. If you were to rank wines on sheer drinkability, Lapierre would top the list.

The 2016 is one of the most wildly drinkable vintages we've seen in some time. It possesses utterly classic Beaujolais nervosité.

The 2016 Morgon is vigorous, featuring wonderful clarity and energy. It is led by Morgon's signature cherry fruit that is rendered with great precision and set against a backdrop of herbal and mineral notes. It's an especially crunchy and gulpable vintage of the wine.

I'm sure that many of you have heard that parts of Beaujolais, including Morgon, were decimated by hail. Producers talk about yields being down 60% or even more.

We saw much less of Lapierre's Morgon than we're accustomed to. It's likely that this offer will be a one-shot deal. This is a lovely, don't-miss vintage of Lapierre's beloved Morgon. Our advice is to jump on this.
