The Master of Morgon Revisited: 2016 Foillard Morgon Corcelette

Posted by Joe Salamone

When Corcelette is on, it's one of the most beguiling bottles of Beaujolais around.

Foillard's Corcelette bottling has quickly become one of the Beaujolais that we reach for the most often.

Corcelette is one of the most elegant expressions of Gamay around. Regardless of the vintage, it's a wine that's very much about the aromatics. They cover a fascinatingly wide spectrum and are delivered with incredible clarity.

It's impossible to write about Corcelette and not compare it to Côte du Py, Foillard's flagship and one of the monuments of Morgon. Côte du Py is deep and meaty with a certain sternness and structure. In contrast, Corcelette shows the more feminine, delicate side of Morgon.

Corcelette originates from 80-year-old vines, planted in sandy soil. This is Gamay cast in silk with a shimmering presentation of bright red fruits, flowers and ultra-clear stony minerality.

Expect the 2016 Corcelette to be a blazingly gorgeous example of the wine. The vintage was certainly a difficult one in many parts of Beaujolais, including Morgon, but the successes of the vintage have a really compelling nimble clarity. The Corcelette is a case in point.

Foillard's 2016 Corcelette has an incredible amount of verve and a racy mineral core. It has a thrilling suave elegance. The wine has a graceful lift that makes it really fascinating and dangerously easy to drink.

We love Foillard in snappy and bright vintages, like 2016, and the Corcelette is really beautiful. We hope that you'll take advantage of the special 4-pack pricing, because you'll want to drink a lot of this wine.
