The Essence of Cornas:
2014 Clape Cornas

Posted by Ian McFadden

For over half a century, Auguste Clape’s wines have captured so much of what's essential in Cornas.

Clape’s Cornas gets to the beating heart of the appellation’s intensely dark and savory side. The wines are wildly complex and utterly compelling expressions of Cornas.

The 2014 is an especially elegant and lifted edition of the wine. It takes Clape's bone-crushing style and adds a gorgeous energy and vibrancy. The wine's impressive architecture and grippy intensity are enlivened by a nimble finesse and a lovely silken texture.

The 2014 Cornas brims with notes of dark berries, olives, dried herbs, cedar, spice and violets. There's a deep, iron minerality that pays tribute to the region's granite slopes and a stern acid spine. In 2014, all of the wine's density is balanced by a sense of brightness and purity.

Few Cornas can rival the longevity of Clape. With time, the wine undergoes an amazing transformation, gaining even more depth, complexity and refinement. We created special pack pricing because the 2014 is a dazzling edition that we have very high hopes for. Don't miss.

2014 Clape Cornas

Jeb Dunnuck, Wine Advocate: "The 2014s are more elegant, silky and streamlined, yet offer classic characters and will evolve gracefully. Similar to the Renaissance, with tons of cedary spice, pepper, iron, beef blood, crushed rock and new saddle leather, the 2014 Cornas is medium to full-bodied, nicely concentrated and structured, with ripe, present tannin. It needs 2-4 years of cellaring and will have 10-15 years of longevity."
