"The appellation’s greatest guardian of traditional winemaking" -Robert Parker
2010 Bonneau Châteauneuf-du-Pape

Anytime that I have the opportunity to sit down with one of Bonneau's wines I get very excited.

They are some of the most magical and soulful wines around. He was the grand old wise man of the Southern Rhône. There is simply nothing like Bonneau's Châteauneufs.

I write all of this with a fair amount of melancholy. Sadly, Henri Bonneau passed away this March.

Bonneau's wines were always considered to be some of the greatest of the Rhône and finding them in quantity was never easy. But with his passing the wines have become even more difficult to track down. Needless to say, I jumped on this parcel.

Bonneau's wines exist in their own universe. They flaunt an unyielding traditional style, and his 2010 CdP is a gorgeous example of this.

The 2010 vintage in Châteauneuf produced a really compelling combination of power and concentration with brightness and finesse. Bonneau's 2010 CdP shows the wild complexity and profound mystery that makes the wines so haunting. There's plenty of power along with a gamey, iron-tinged and energetic core.

We offered Bonneau's 2010 Châteauneuf last August. I'm really happy to be able to offer it again. It's an absolutely captivating expression of one of the world's most singular producers.
