Only The Essential:
2015 Lauer Ayler Kupp Kabinett Auction

Posted by Joe Salamone

For the past few years, Lauer's Kabinett has been one of our favorite purchases from the Grosser Ring Auctions.

In 2015, it's even more so. We've been beating the drum for Lauer's 2015s for months, and the Kabinett Auction represents one of the pinnacles of the collection.

Auction bottlings represent some of the greatest wines to come out of Germany. We've been consistently blown away by the auction selections of our favorite producers. While there's no getting around the price tags, it's clear that there's a large gulf between the auction bottlings and their regular releases.

There is a temptation to take auction selections to the extreme, though. What we love about Lauer's auction bottlings, and especially the Kabinett, is how it strives not for more, but instead for less. The Kabinett Auction is about purity, fineness and ultimately, about stripping everything down to the essentials.

The 2015 begins with an explosiveness and then, finishes beautifully lithe, pure and detailed. It's the harmony and amazingly composed architecture that blows us away. The wine boasts a weightless intensity throughout.

Lauer's 2015 auction is undoubtedly one of the top Kabinetts of vintage. There’s something utterly magical about how the best Kabinetts carry their intensity and complexity while walking on tip-toe. This is an exemplar of just how glorious the category can be. These are the only bottles in the U.S. Don't miss.

Mosel Fine Wines: "This offers grapefruit, peach and greengage on the nose. The wine starts off on the ample side but quickly firms up to deliver crisp zesty grapefruit and minerals. The long and mouthwatering finish is gorgeously tart and animating."
