Here Today, Gone Tomorrow:
2016 Souhaut Syrah

Posted by Ian McFadden

Souhaut makes absolutely gorgeous and insanely drinkable Northern Rhône wines. And people have clearly noticed.

Any time that we offer the wines, we end up spending the evening allocating them.

Souhaut is producing some of the most beautifully expressive and delicious wines in the Northern Rhône. I've called Souhaut's wines habit-forming, and there's no wine of his that I've drunk more of than the Syrah.

Souhaut's Syrah comes from the Ardeche, not far from St. Joseph. Even though this is one of his entry level bottles, it's one of my favorites. What I've always loved about this bottling is its immediacy and the classic profile of Syrah's savoriness and perfume.

The 2016 edition is snappy, vibrant and incredibly expressive. There's a blatant mineral spine that carries clear dark fruits, floral notes, spice and a subtle undertone of gaminess. There's also a suave textural element that makes the wine irresistible.

The smart move is to keep this offer brief. Souhaut is a small domaine with a large following. Don't sleep on this.
