"Brovia's 2016s are all finesse"
2016 Brovia Barolo

Posted by Joe Salamone

Within the top ranks of Barolo, it's difficult to compete with Brovia in terms of value.

No place in their formidable lineup dramatizes this as much as their Barolo normale. In top vintages, this bottling over-delivers in an astonishing way.

To a large extent, this isn't surprising. As we've said before, the 2016 Barolos are a dream brew of depth, verve, and clarity. It possesses ripe vintage concentration with cool vintage elegance and precision.

As Galloni's note above alludes to, Brovia teased out an enormous amount of finesse and detail from the vintage. The 2016 Barolo is not shy on intensity, but it's the nuance, precision, and overall harmony that really stands out.

The Barolo normale is a blend of younger vines throughout Brovia's impressive Cru holdings. In any vintage, the wine has a shocking clarity of expression to the minerality, herbs, floral notes, and spice. However, the 2016 is among the best examples of the wine that we've seen. It's one of those vintages that seems to deliver more of everything.

This is clearly a snapshot of Brovia at the top of their game. Brovia is one of the great talents of Piedmont and in a vintage like 2016, and at this price, our advice is to go deep.
