Back Up The Truck - Chablis Edition:
2016 Tribut Chablis

Posted by Ian McFadden

Tribut made, quite possibly, the Chablis of the vintage in 2016.

Anytime that I see Tribut's 2016s available, I jump at the chance to buy them.

It's not easy. Finding Tribut in quantity is always difficult, but it's even worse in 2016 - production was down considerably.

Today's offer is one of my greatest Tribut scores to date. At as low as $34.95, this is one of the best deals in Chablis that I've come across. Just to underscore how rare Tribut's 2016 Chablis is, I should mention that there is only one other listing in the country.

The 2016 Chablis is deeply concentrated with a mineral-laden and cool fruit profile. There's a textural imprint of Chablisienne stony minerality and a saline streak. The wine is further animated by currents of citrus.

As we've said in the past, it's very easy to detect a kinship with the wines of Dauvissat. In Tribut, you encounter a similar classically structured and deeply complex Chablis minerality.

This isn't accidental. Laurent Tribut married Marie-Clotilde Dauvissat, the daughter of René Dauvissat. The Dauvissats purchased choice parcels to give to their children to become winemakers, which is the land Laurent and Marie-Clotilde farm, and opened up their cellar to them. Tribut and Dauvissat even share a picking team.

Tribut's fans are a seriously entrenched group. The wines are so compelling that once you've tasted them, they immediately get added to the go-to list. I'm very happy to have the opportunity offer Tribut's Chablis at such sharp pricing. This is, for sure, the sort of deal that I doubt we'll see again.

Burghound: "A ripe and appealingly layered nose brings together notes of pear, apple, lemon zest and just enough Chablis typicity to be convincing. The rich, succulent and seductively textured medium weight flavors exude a hint of minerality on the clean, dry and solidly persistent finish. This is a quality 2016 Chablis villages that should drink well young."
