"A seriously impressive effort that is built to age"
- 2010 D'Angerville Volnay 1er Cru Champans

Posted by Ian McFadden

Last Monday, we offered d'Angerville's 2013 Ducs. Today, I'm excited to offer the 2010 Champans.

I've been obsessed with d'Angerville since my visit there a few weeks ago. It was magical.

All of the wines, including a 1920 Ducs, were absolutely brilliant. However, it was a 2010 that stole the show. The wine reminded me of how absolutely stunning their 2010s are.

After a lot of searching, I'm very happy to have landed this parcel of 2010 Champans. This is one of my favorite Champans of the past decade.

Volnay is one of the more feminine and velvety expressions of Burgundy. With that said, the magic of Champans is the way it combines muscle and density with a gorgeous finesse.

The 2010 Champans showcases the finessed side of Champans in a way that I haven't seen before. The wine has a radiant clarity and tension-filled concentration that's thrilling. There's a dazzling high-toned and perfumed character to the wine.

Champans has an extraordinary track record for aging. Every time we've had the opportunity to drink old Champans they've been amazing. We’ve had bottles with fifty years of age that were still gorgeously fresh and completely stunning. There's no doubt that the 2010 Champans will be a distance runner.
