Transcending Its Category - 2014 Tribut Chablis

Posted by Ian McFadden

For years, Laurent Tribut's wines have been an insider's secret, but that has ended.

These are wines that you can't help but take notice of.

Tribut's 2014s are absolutely stunning. His basic Chablis AC is, without a doubt, one of the best village level wines we've tasted this vintage.

For the past 6 months, the 2014 Chablis have been some of the most exciting wines that we've tasted. It's a classic vintage amplified. There's impressive concentration with incredibly pure and delineated Chablis minerality and razor cut.

What makes Tribut's Chablis so extraordinary for a village wine is its combination of intensity and refined mineral grip. It's deep, poised and complex. All added up, this is a don't miss bottle.

Laurent Tribut married Marie-Clotilde Dauvissat, the daughter of René Dauvissat. The Dauvissats had purchased choice parcels to give their children to become winemakers, which is the land Laurent and Marie-Clotilde farm. Tribut was welcomed with open arms into the Dauvissat winemaking process: the two domaines share everything from pickers to printers and, until very recently, Tribut made wines in Dauvissat's cellar.

There's an unmistakable similarity between Tribut's and Dauvissat's wines. Both share a classically structured, deeply complex Chablis minerality and intense, sweeping notes of stone fruits, and flowers.

For years, the majority of Tribut's wines have been quietly snapped up by collectors. That's quickly changing. Tribut's production is modest. In a vintage as heralded as 2014, it makes for an ugly combination. Tribut's 2014s are hard to come by and difficult to hold on to. Please give us your ideal order and we'll try our best.

2014 Tribut Chablis

Burghound: "A ripe and expressive nose features notes of yellow orchard fruit that is liberally laced with citrus and classic Chablis elements. The attractively rich and relatively full-bodied flavors possess good punch as the lemon-tinged acidity keeps the balance on the clean and agreeably dry finale. This terrific effort should drink well both young and with a few years of cellar time. Highly recommended for a villages level Chablis."
