2015 Dönnhoff Hermannshöhle
Auslese Goldkapsel Half-Bottles

Posted by Joe Salamone

Dönnhoff has enjoyed many, many years as one of Germany's top addresses.

And that makes his 2015 collection all the more miraculous.

The 2015s are some of the best young wines we've tasted from Dönnhoff. The strength of the line-up is obvious.

Dönnhoff's 2015s are a dream brew: finesse, concentration, length and pristine clarity. Helmut Dönnhoff himself says that he's only seen fruit as beautiful as it was in 2015 one other time, 1971.

We're happy to offer Dönnhoff's 2015 Hermannshöhle Auslese Goldkapsel for $41.95 per half-bottle.

Niederhauser Hermannshöhle is Dönnhoff's crown jewel and the family's oldest site. It is without a doubt one of the Nahe's top vineyard sites. The wines rival the best anywhere with power, length, and elegance. Above all, Hermannshöhle has a refinement and completeness that separates it from the pack.

The 2015 Hermannshöhle Auslese Goldkapsel is a beautiful expression of the great site. It offers Hermannshöhle with high-toned power and pitch perfect clarity. John Gilman wisely points out the "laser-like focus on the long, refined and classic finish." There's a very clear mineral streak that's complemented by ultra-clear citrus, floral notes and stone fruits.

There's an incredible amount of excitement over the 2015 vintage in Germany. It's been a very long time since we've seen anything remotely close to this level of interest. The wines dazzle with pure, explosive fruit and depth combined with crackling acidity.

For Dönnhoff fans, this is a don't miss. It's an absolutely brilliant example of Hermannshöhle Auslese Goldkapsel.

2015 Dönnhoff Hermannshöhle Auslese Half-Bottles

John Gilman, View from the Cellar: "The 2015 Hermannshöhle Goldkapsel Auslese is also a stunning wine in the making, but at least at this early stage, it does not seem to have quite the same completeness of its Brücke counterpart. The bouquet is pure, refined and very vibrant in its blend of apple, white cherry, citrus zest, white flowers and beautiful minerality. On the palate the wine is pure, fullish, racy and very classy in profile, with a fine core, exceptional complexity in the making, racy acids and laser-like focus on the long, refined and classic finish. Dynamite wine."
