A Legend in the Making
2015 Prüm Graacher Himmelreich Spätlese

Prüm's 2015s are simply brilliant. The magic of the vintage is in the wines' harmony.

The 2015 Himmelreich Spätlese offers an incredibly compelling place to witness this. Wehlener Sonnenhuhr is Prüm's flapship, but in certain vintages the Himmelreich rivals it. 2015 is one of those vintages.

In warmer vintages, Prum's Graacher Himmelreich shines. The 2015 Himmelreich Spätlese has a crackling, driving acidity and firm core of smoky minerality. The wine is riveting. It possesses exhilarating aromatics, gorgeous transparency, bracing herbaceousness, and tautly calibrated acidity.

The 2015 Prüms seem destined for legendary status. Mosel Fine Wines calls 2015 “easily the best vintage at this estate since the magical 2006 and the stellar 2001“ and sums it up simply: “the Spätlesen are gorgeous.“ Katarina Prüm says that neither she, nor her father Manfred, have witnessed a vintage that allows a direct comparison to 2015. Many harken back to 2001; Manfred references 1959 – and still finds no peer.

Spätlesen are one of the sweet spots of the 2015 vintage, and Prüm's are especially stunning. Given the nearly unparalleled track record that the wines have for aging, there's little doubt that the 2015 Himmelreich Spätlese will age beautifully. This is a special vintage for the wine.

2015 J.J. Prüm Graacher Himmelreich Spätlese

Mosel Fine Wines: "This is still quite reduced at first but already offers a gorgeous nose of dried herbs, spices, melon, almond (from reduction) and cassis. The wine reveals quite a playful side on the palate as its juicy fruits are wrapped into a mineral and smoky core of smoke. The wine is delicately ripe yet vibrant acidity brings freshness and liveliness to the long and mouth-watering finish. This is a superb Spätlese with even some upside potential."
