1996 Huet Haut Lieu Moelleux: $10 Below Lowest Price in U.S.

Sweet Back-Vintage Vouvray Deal
1996 Huet Le Haut Lieu Moelleux
$10 Below the Lowest Price in the U.S.

Huet's Moelleux are without a doubt in the category of the greatest and the most ageworthy sweet wines in the world, yet they come at simply ridiculous values for their quality. (We've said this a thousand times.)

Redundancy aside, this continues to reign true (for now, at least), so we'll happily continue to share - and cellar and drink - as much of these wines as we can find...

...especially the Moelleux from the impressive 1996 vintage - and especially at $10-$20 below the only two prices in the U.S.

Huet is one of the grandest names in winemaking and their wines represent the pinnacle of Vouvray and Chenin Blanc - there is just no denying this.

There are so many serious Huet collectors (their wines remain... still, somehow, some of the greatest values in world class whites) so we expect this small parcel to go quickly. If you're interested, please let us know ASAP.

The Haut Lieu site sports a fairly deep tuffeau bedrock topped with brown clay and chalk; its reputation is for wines that are supple and generous. True to form, this 96 dances across the palate in classic Haut Lieu fashion: rounded and luxurious texturally yet also stunningly elegant, sculpted. The acidity seems to style and buoy all that glowing citrus, straw, honey and lanolin.

Huet Moelleux are wines that you can essentially open at any point in their development; with every year of age, each element weaves in and out of one another, so that the tapestry becomes more and more complex, mysterious, evocative. With time (say, 10, 20... 100 years) the sugar integrates into the wine and they become less sweet, more complex. Few wines are this immortal, and few marry their richness with finesse in such an integrated, seamless fashion.

Older vintages of Huet are getting more and more rare, while prices continue to rise, especially recently when the Domaine increased "cellar door" prices on all back vintages considerably.

This is a unique chance to experience the labyrinthine complexity and delicate tip-toe finesse that Vouvray attains with the proper aging and storage, at very sharp pricing. We urge you to order swiftly. We'll make allocations at the end of the day if necessary.
