We’re doing it again this year and if you haven’t already heard (seriously, this wine has been discussed on any number of wine bulletin boards as a rockin’ quality-value wine), the 2008 Naucratis is spectacular.
The Naucratis is 100% Verdelho sourced from a kooky vineyard only Abe could find down in the Sacramento Delta. This wine has a Grüner Veltliner-Chenin Blanc-like feel; big push, honeysuckle fruits with a lively detailed edging and some serious snap to it.

Abe writes: “This is perhaps our most successful Naucratis ever. Perhaps not as beautifully aromatic as the 2006, but as powerful as the 07 and utterly dry and balanced. The fruit was perfectly ripe and still quite floral and with good acidity at harvest; the fermentation was easy and complete; there was no transfer of flavors from the lees; we halted malolactic pretty early and thoroughly; and we bottled when the wine was ready. Very nice.”
