Rare Gold Capsule MAGNUM: Schafer-Frohlich

*Rare* Schäfer-Fröhlich Gold Capsule Mags
Lightening Strikes Again (in Magnum Format)
Less Than Three Cases for the U.S.!

"Tim Fröhlich's 2008s are near-perfect. This is one of the only estates where I might say the 2008s are even better than the 2007s - and the 2007s were scary-good."

Are the 2008 Schäfer-Fröhlichs better than the 2007s?

They might be. In fact, just last week Tim Fröhlich won the German food & wine journal Gault Millau's "Winemaker of the Year" for his 2008 collection. (A HUGE deal in Germany, if a bit of an obscure mention in the U.S.)

For those of you who thrill to Rieslings of mineral, clarity and ferocious precision, Tim's 2008 collection will absolutely haunt you. In my two weeks in Germany, I don't know that I tasted a more complete, more powerful and chiseled collection. Today we offer one of the top Spätlesen to come out of Germany in 2008 - Tim's Felseneck Spätlese Gold Capsule, in rare magnum format.

So far as I can tell, there are less than 36 magnums of this wine in the U.S. and we have them all. This offer goes out *only* to those of you who have supported our German wine program. (A belated holiday present for the German wine fanatic who has everything?)

For me, the 2008s from Tim are just about as good as Riesling gets and this is the best of the best. This is a vintage for true rock-heads, for those who prize mineral and finesse.

Even this Gold Capsule, picked at a nimble 100 Oechsle with no botrytis, is just wicked sharp, with a stinging detail of mineral and acid, and a transparency that is frightening. These are the most thrilling aspects of this classic vintage and few have styled wines with such filigreed elegance. If you like wines of focus, of precision, of agility and freakishly complex aromatics - this wine will haunt you.

For purists, the 2008 has taken a scalpel to slate and the detail and clarity of the wine is incredible.

This is a personal bottle for us - we first brought the 2006 to the U.S. market over two years ago. We were able to increase our 2007 and 2008 allocations, though this is the first year we've scored any magnums. Maybe it's even the first time Tim bottled enough magnums so that some were left for the export market?

Less than 36 magnums are available. Please let us know how many you are interested in though we will likely have to allocate one bottle per customer - first come, first served.
