Rarities in Beaujolais
In this case, "buyership has its privileges" - you get the first look at some of the rarest and greatest Beaujolais out there, Metras' Fleurie VV in magnum, and the super-rare l'Ultime in both fifth and magnum.
Suffice it to say you should act now if you have any interest - it's impossible to over-emphasize the rarity here. To be perfectly transparent, here's what we have:
We have 26 magnums of Metras' 2010 Fleurie VV.
For Metras' super-cuvée, the 2010 l'Ultime, we have 47 bottles and 24 magnums. (In 2009, a rather generous vintage, only 250 cases were made of the Ultime... in 2010, quantities are surely much less.)
That's it. So far as we know, that's everything for the U.S.
The VV is defined by its rigorous structure, its extra dimension and sense of completeness that puts these wines on a different level than straight "Beaujolais," and the magnum format only further contributes to this 2010 VV's longevity.
As for l'Ultime, it's like the ace in Métras' pocket - a super-rare, extra-old-vines selection from Fleurie with particularly low yields, donating an even more significant dose of structure and tannin as well as a deeper fruit/earth concentration. The Ultime demands the most time in the cellar: Even in 750ml format, l'Ultime from a classically structured vintage like 2010 deserves five years plus; magnums can easily double that.
