"Does Meursault get any better...?" - 2009 Lafon Meursault, Charmes & more

"It's a good vintage in red but it's a genuinely great vintage in white."
-Dominique Lafon
2009 Lafon Meursault, Clos de la Barre, Goutte d'Or, Charmes & Genevrieres

"Does Meursault get any better than the wines of Comtes Lafon? Probably not." -Matt Kramer, Making Sense of Burgundy

If Lafon needs any introduction at all (doubtful), it should suffice to say that Dominique Lafon is one of the unquestionable greats in Meursault, along with Jean-Françoise Coche-Dury.

Take a look into the Burghound's database, for fun, and search "Meursault" and organize by score. A crude exercise, for sure, yet still - it's not until the 15th entry that you come across any name either than Coche or Lafon.

Lafon's whites are undoubtedly some of the greatest wines in the world and if there's a true sign of a master, a true sign of something beyond simple reason/logic, it might be that in a year that many Burgundy collectors consider a red wine vintage, Lafon has made one of his greatest collections.

As quoted in Burghound, Dominique Lafon says, "It's a good vintage in red but it's a genuinely great vintage in white."

As you can guess, we do not have many bottles of any of these wines. Still, they are worth acquiring if you can get your hands on them.

See below for a full list of the 2009 Lafons on offer; a range from the over-achieving Meursault AC to the epic 1er Crus Genevrières and Charmes.

From top to bottom, the line-up is awesome; this is signature Lafon, the ripeness of 2009 showing itself in fine layers, a textural plushness balanced, controlled, styled by the structure, the symmetry of the wines.

Lafon is one of the best and these are not inexpensive wines - "inexpensive" and "Meursault" are two words that are unlikely to ever be associated with each other. Yetin the context of Coche, whose Meursault AC is over $200 a bottle and whose Genevrieres is at (and above!) the $600 mark,it's not inappropriate to speak of the wines as "values."

In any event, they won't be spoken of for very long because these will disappear quickly. Please give us your ideal order and we'll allocate as fairly as possible - preference given to balanced orders.
