Huet is one of the special, soulful, collectible and still (gulp!) affordable treasures of the wine world.
The Vouvrays of Huet are simply adored, they are lovingly sought out by collectors, wine geeks, everyday drinkers and just about everyone else with a taste for purity and elegance.
Today we are thrilled to present an initial release of the 2008s, a vintage that has yet to even land on these shores (wines due April) yet is already being talked about, a lot. According to John Gilman and many others, Vouvray and Montlouis are the star regions of the Loire in 2008.
Gilman singles out Huet as the star of Vouvray, which comes as a surprise to no one, yet still... it's good to hear!
The 2008 Huets are wines with absurd concentrations (see discussion on yields below) - they are meaty and tactile with strong, sharpening acidities. The Le Mont Demi-Sec, we have been told by trusted palates, is a simply stunning bottle of wine and not to be missed.
Make no mistake, 2008 was not an easy vintage. The rather uninspiring summer had some very dramatic weather. A storm over Vouvray in fact flooded the road outside of the domaine! What saved the vintage was lots and lots of vineyard work and a simply crazy rigor in the cellar. Yields in 2008 at Domaine Huet were roughly 25 hectares per hectare, which is very, very, very low.
While the quality in 2008 is very high, a vintage that offers something for nearly everyone, quantities are going to be very low. While there is a forward exuberance to the wines (making them tremendously fun to drink young), as Gilman suggests, these wines will develop in the cellar for many, many years. Those who can consider a 6-pack purchase, should! We will do our best to honor all requests, though all orders are subject to confirmation.

Wine Doctor: "Pear and bitter stone fruits on the nose of this wine, which doesn't seem too expressive otherwise. The palate is superb though; fresh and clean, with good substance through the midpalate, florally precise fruit and lots of stony acidity. Firm and defined through to the finish. This is really impressive; a true vin de garde."

The beautiful and superbly complex nose on the ’08 Demi-Sec from the Le Mont vineyard soars from the glass in a blaze of apple, sweet grapefruit,
incipient notes of honeycomb, orange peel, kaleidoscopic minerality and an esthery topnote of bee pollen. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, pure and very snappy, with a
