"It's very rare to find this kind of quality... " - 09 Bachelet Bourgogne Rouge

"It's very rare to find this kind of quality for the appellation."
2009 Bachelet Bourgogne Rouge

"I would go so far as to say that the Bachelet '09s are among the best that I have ever seen from him, especially the Bourgogne." -Burghound

If you haven't gathered this by the 6+ offers we've sent out in the last year or two, Denis Bachelet is one of those producers that we just can't get enough of.

The wines are soulful, textural, layered, complex, balanced. He has only three hectares, but he has some serious old-vine holdings. At every single level, the wines are stunning.

Today, we bring to light a little $35-stunner of a red Burgundy (with, admittedly, a little help from the Burghound who is also very aware of the quality of the 09).

Bachelet's Bourgogne Rouge is in a unique class. Only Chevillon, Mugneret-Gibourg and Lafarge produce Bourgogne Rouge that can even approach the quality that Bachelet issues forth. In 2009 they don't quite match what Bachelet achieved.

As the Burghound quote above makes clear 09 is a very BIG year for Bachelet's Bourgogne Rouge.

It's old news by now that 2009 is a very, very strong vintage in Burgundy. It was the sort of picture-perfect vintage that raised the bar for everything; the Grand Crus are grand indeed, but the Bourgogne and village-level wines are killer.

Bachelet's 09 Bourgogne Rouge drives home just how successful the vintage was at this humblest of levels. Even given the high bar for the wine, 09 delivers more breadth, more depth, more detail with its spectrum of wild raspberries, blackberries, cherries and dark, rich, freshly turned earth.

As with most of the 2009s, look for the drinking window here to be wide and generous. The 09 Bachelet is firing on all cylinders right now and should only grow for another 10+ years.

This little wine has developed a big reputation - we expect our parcel to go quickly. This offer goes out only to those of you who've supported our Burgundy program. Still, if you're interested, let us know as soon as possible!
