Blue-Chip Vouvray, Ready to Drink Today...
$50 Below the Lowest Price in the World

In The New France, Andrew Jefford writes that Chenin at its best is "among the finest white wines on earth, rivaled only for longevity, and for the beauty of its cellar metamorphoses, by Riesling."

Some of you may remember our 02 and 85 Le Mont Demi-Sec offerings this spring - small parcels that sold out in near record time...

Today we turn up the volume with a parcel of Huet's 1985 Le Mont and Clos de Bourg Moelleux - these are wines with a quarter-century of development, perfectly stored in the cellars of the domaine itself.

At a price of under $70 a bottle on the 4-pack, this is a serious dessert wine deal; we're talking over $50 below the lowest prices in the world.

Have no doubt, Chenin Blanc produces some of the finest dessert wines in the world, as Andrew Jefford suggests above. These are epic bottlings that somehow remain reasonably priced. Somewhere between the textured richness of Sauternes and the sleek clarity of higher-Prädikat Riesling (Auslesen, BAs and TBAs), Vouvray Moelleux are rounded, elegant and weightier than Rieslings, yet the greats (like Huet) use the acidity almost as a sculptural element.

Indeed the acidity actually styles the sweetness, giving them a freshness and a buoyancy. Few wines marry the richness with the finesse in such an integrated, seamless fashion.

Domaine Huet is, quite simply, the greatest estate in Vouvray, with a signature that offers up shimmering lemon fruits with a honeyed richness, flamboyant lime blossoms, quince fruits and spices. With age, the palate becomes a study in opulence married to lift and finesse. Today we celebrate their silver anniversary.

The Le Mont shows a bit more of a flashy, energetic spine, a result of its having grown up in a stony vineyard of clay mixed with a bit of silica. The Clos du Bourg tends to be the more structured sibling, hailing from a site of hard, power-wielding limestone layered with thin top soil.

Today's special 4-pack pricing offers you the possibility to explore both terroirs - both bottlings are well worth the tariff.

Our parcel today is bigger than our previous offerings, but it's still modest. Please give us your maximum order and we'll do our best.
