This is one of the most important new projects to come out of Austria in some years and the truth is that we have almost no wine to offer.

For the 2009, the inaugural vintage, a scant 150 cases were made. Only a few of the U.S.'s top sommeliers were given a bottle to taste along with us, and among this small group, the wine was completely sold out. Rajat Parr said he would take every single bottle. (Lucky for us, he was denied.)

As you've likely heard, 2009 is a sensual Burgundy vintage; the wines are plush and seductive. Dujac, however, put together one of the collections of the vintage and they did this bystyling this ripeness, by giving the wine both an ultra-fine texture as well as poise, balance... freshness.

This is my number one choice for a white for the Thanksgiving table. This has just enough weight to stand up to something like turkey with gravy (and mashed potatoes and stuffing and Brussels sprouts and cranberries and on and on...) yet plenty of energy to power through, cleanse the palate, ready you for another bite... and not send you straight to the couch.

Today we embrace the cultural history, the wild complexity, the deliciousness of the field blend. As Joel Peterson, founder of Ravenswood, has pointed out: "Field blends would be California's main wine if it wasn't for Prohibition. The field blend is a topic whose time has come."
